Varkala is similar to other parts of coastal Kerala where the conditions are generally hot and humid. The best time to visit Varkala is in winter (December to February).

  • Summers (March to May) are hot and extreme and humidity is high. Temperatures range from a minimum of 32°C to a maximum of 35°C during the day. May is usually the hottest month of the year. Nights are much cooler and a cooling breeze from the sea provides some relief.
  • Monsoons (June to September) are wet with a high amount of rainfall. Temperatures fall during this period and heavy rainfall can be experienced for most of the season. The months of October and November are a good time to visit and a few showers can be expected during this time.
  • Winters (December to February) are cool and pleasant and the best time to visit Varkala. During this time temperatures range from a minimum of 22°C and can rise up to around 28°C. The months of December and January have mild conditions which are perfect for beach activities in Varkala.
