Being a coastal area, Alleppey is humid throughout the year. The best time to visit Alleppey is between September and March.

  • Winters (November to February) are pleasant with temperature between 17°C to 32°C. It is the best period for Alleppey tourism. Tourists can enjoy beach activities, houseboat vacations and backwater tours during this period.
  • Summers (March to May) involve dry and humid weather with maximum temperatures reaching nearly 37°C. This period is best avoided as it is hot and uncomfortable.
  • Monsoons (June to September) are accompanied with heavy rains, especially in June and July which are particularly wet.

December to February offers pleasant climate making it the perfect time for sightseeing in Alleppey. August to November has moderate temperatures and is associated with many celebrations. March to May is hot, but still nice for sightseeing and backwater rowing. However, the months of June and July have heavy showers with water clogging on roads disrupting outdoor activities.

 

Events & Festivals in Alleppey

It is worth scheduling a visit to Alleppey during one of their fairs or festivals that are held on a grand scale as the city is the most colourful and liveliest at this time. Be prepared for throngs of tourists, both local and foreigners, during this time.

  • August-September months are the period of Onam Celebrations. Alleppey is renowned for the Snake boat races, especially the Nehru Trophy boat race in Punnamada Lake, which coincides in the month of August.
  • During February to April there are many temple and church festivals which make the city come to life.
