Located in central India, Madhya Pradesh tends to have a subtropical climate. Like most of north India, it has a hot dry summer (April–June), followed by monsoon rains (July–September) and a cool and relatively dry winter. The best time to visit Madhya Pradesh is between November and February.

  • Summers (March to May) are usually hot, dry and windy. March and April provide the best chance of spotting tigers before the weather becomes too hot to venture outside.
  • Monsoons (June to September) are wet and slippery due to heavy rainfall. This period is best avoided as the national parks are closed and the roads are slippery. However, places like Chhattisgarh are at their most beautiful during the monsoons.
  • Winters (November to February) are usually pleasant and dry with temperatures ranging between 10 °C and 25 °C. This is the most pleasant time to visit Madhya Pradesh, although the hilltops will still be chilly.
