Kanha has a temperate climate during summers and a cooler climate during winters. The best time to visit Kanha National Park is from February to April before the heat intensifies greatly. The park is open between November and June and closed during the monsoons (1 July to 15 October).

  • Summers (March to June) are temperate with the temperature reaching a maximum of 40 °C. This is the perfect time to visit Kanha National Park as the weather provides for the best sighting of animals. During this season, the climate is pleasant and the grass cover is at a low level ensuring better visibility of animals. Also, the water levels are low allowing wildlife to congregate at selected watering holes.
  • Monsoons (July to September) offer medium to heavy rainfalls and is not a suitable time to visit Kanha. During this period, the routes may be slippery and also the park is closed.
  • Winters (December to February) are severe and frosty with the minimum temperature falling to 2 °C. This season is attractive due to the snow capped mountains. This period is also suitable for spotting Barasingha (Indian swamp deer) in the wilderness.
