CityCat Ferries
In our opinion, this is the best river cruise option in Brisbane by far. If you’re not up for anything fancy and just want to see the see the sights and sounds of Brisbane from the river, this is the best option for you.
There are a few options for river cruises with CityCat Ferries.
Option 1 – Board at Riverside and head downstream under the Story Bridge to New Farm Park, past Newstead House to the restaurant row at Brett’s Wharf;
Option 2 – Board at Riverside and cruise upriver past the city and South Bank to the University of Queensland’s lovely campus.
Option 3 – Stay on board for the full trip downstream and upstream, which takes about 2 hours
River City Cruises
River City Cruises sits in the middle of the range for river cruise options along the Brisbane River. They are quite similar to CityCat Ferries with one addition – their 1 ½-hour cruises come with commentary.
River City Cruises depart from South Bank Parkland Jetty A. Departure times are 10:30am and 12:30pm (plus 2:30pm during summer).
See River City Cruises for more information.
Kookaburra River Queens
Kookaburra River Queens sits at the top of the range for river cruise options on the Brisbane River. For those who’d like a meal as they cruise, the Kookaburra River Queen paddle-wheelers are a good option. You can opt for a 2-hr lunch cruise or a 2 ½-hr dinner cruise. The dinner cruises have a much nicer dining option, offering both a seafood and roast carvery buffet.
Dinner cruises run daily except Monday and Wednesday. The boat departs from the Eagle Street Pier (parking is available under the City Rowers tavern on Eagle St.) at 7:30pm. On the first Sunday of each month, a cruise with live jazz runs from 12:15 to 2pm.
See Kookaburra River Queens for more information.
