Bright is Victoria’s premier cycling destination: from enthusiastic amateurs on cross-bikes and family groups with kids on trainer wheels to mountain biking adventurers and serious road warriors.

Cycling around Bright, Victoria

Bright and its surrounding towns and villages, mountains and valleys offer every imaginable terrain, knockout scenery and challenges large and small to suit anyone and everyone on two wheels.

Explore the Rail Trails of Australia’s premier cycling destination, home to more than 250km of safe, scenic (and mostly flat!) off-road rail trails. Discover natural bushland, open farmland, fertile valleys and some of Australia’s most spectacular mountain ranges, as you pedal.

One of the most popular cycling trails is the Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail which starts behind the old train station. Pedal to Produce is the best way to get around and visit cafes, cellar doors and breweries while pedalling through some beautiful countryside.

Bright also hosts several cycling festivals and events including some popular road racing events such as the Audax Alpine Classic and the Tour of Bright. Mountain biking is also popular here with the Bright Mountain Bike Festival taking place in November.

Facilities

There’s good signage, several toilet and water stops along the cycling paths and all the towns en route have bike-hire facilities. There are also a number of tour operators in the area offering tailor-made packages and guided cycling holidays from the sedate to the adventurous.

Bikes, tandems and baby trailers can be rented from Cyclepath Adventures. Cyclepath also leads bike tours through the hills around Bright.

Bus-a-Bike carries up to 11 people and their bikes to wherever, from wherever, along the trail. Ring to arrange your pick-up. (03 5752 2974)

There are hundreds of Cycle Friendly Businesses across the North East region which welcome cyclists with open arms, offer information and provide water and local knowledge. Look for the green cycle friendly business logo.
