The main point of entry into West Bengal is the capital city of Kolkata (Calcutta). Kolkata has an international and domestic airport as well as three train stations with Howrah train station being the most important one. Buses connect Kolkata to the rest of West Bengal making it ideal to travel around West Bengal.

The easiest and most affordable way to travel around West Bengal is on the train system that connects the various destinations very well. Alternatively, buses depart for the hill stations of Darjeeling and Kalimpong regularly from northern Kolkata. If you’re planning on visiting the Sunderbans, consider taking a two- or three-day package tour with a reputable agency with pick-up and drop-off in Kolkata. Private cars with chauffeurs can be hired easily from reputable hotels or travel agencies in Kolkata.
