2. Black Fulla Dreaming Eumundi

If you’re interested in Aboriginal culture, head to Black Fulla Dreaming in Eumundi. It’s an Aboriginal-owned and operated shop that sells indigenous products including boomerangs and didjeridus hand-painted by Aboriginal artists. You can also learn about the Aboriginal culture at one of the boomerang-throwing or didjeridu demonstrations or watch a dance performance by the Gubbi Gubbi dancers.

If you want to explore the area, head 18km northwest to the little village of Pomona which sits in the shadow of looming Mt Cooroora (440m). This village is home to the wonderful Majestic Theatre, one of the only places in the world where you can see a silent movie accompanied by the original Wurlitzer organ soundtrack. For 21 years (until 2007) the theatre played only one film – Rudolph Valentino’s The Son of the Sheikh, every Thursday night. A recent spruce up has seen the addition of a restaurant and the reintroduction of talkies but the focus remains on the silent screen. For a step back in history, catch a screening of the iconic The Son of the Sheikh at 8pm on the first Thursday of each month. The Majestic Theatre is located at 3 Factory Street and is open Thursday to Sunday nights.
