Getting to & from Bangalore
Bangalore is well connected to other Indian cities via rail, air and bus services.
By Air – KempeGowda International Airport is located in Devanahalli, 40 km (25 mi) from the central business district of Bangalore (MG Road) and 30 km (19 mi) from the Bangalore City Railway Station.
To get from the airport to Bangalore city, buses, pre- and post-paid taxis, shared taxis, as well as self-drive cars and hotel pick ups can be arranged. A high speed train is planned sometime in the future.
By Train – Bangalore has two major railway terminals. The Bangalore City railway station is situated in the heart of the city, opposite the Majestic Bus stand. Most trains arrive and depart from here. The other terminal is Yeshwantpur Junction located on NH-4 (Tumkur Road). A few trains arrive and depart from here.
By Bus – There are both government and private buses that run services to major cities like Mumbai, Goa, Chennai, Mangalore, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tirupati and Hyderabad. It is not advisable to travel long distance in India by bus as it is a very uncomfortable journey.
Getting around Bangalore
Several modes of transport operate throughout the city making it easy and affordable to get to and from the Bangalore tourist places. For the budget traveller, there are many bus routes within Bangalore that connect the old city to other suburbs. For travellers who require more comfortable travel options, there are taxis and auto rickshaws which are easily available from anywhere in the city. Private cars with chauffeurs can also be booked through hotels in the city.
