3. Healesville Sanctuary

The world-famous Healesville Sanctuary is one of Victoria’s premier zoos and showcases Australia’s most beautiful and unique wildlife. With over 200 different varieties this 32 hectare reserve is one of the most acclaimed sanctuaries in Australia. Ranging from kangaroos and emus right through to wombats and birds of prey, there’s plenty for everyone to experience and enjoy.

If you’re in the Yarra Valley area and love the outdoors, the Yarra Ranges National Park is worth a visit for its majestic Mountain Ash trees which give way to pockets of cool temperate rainforest and for Mt Donna Buang, a popular day-trip destination – especially during winter, when it is often snow-covered.

6. Kinglake National Park

Visit Kinglake National Park for beautiful messmate forests, fern gullies, panoramic lookouts and bushwalking tracks. The largest national park close to Melbourne, Kinglake National Park has an extensive network of walking tracks, as well as vantage points offering scenic views of the Melbourne skyline, Port Phillip Bay, the Yarra Valley and across to the You Yangs.

If you love your cheeses, the Yarra Valley Dairy in Yering is worth a visit for their fine quality handmade farmhouse cheeses. Inspired by the farmhouse cheeses of France and Italy, their fresh soft-style cheeses are worth sampling for their delicious flavours and fine quality.

The Yarra Valley is dotted with delicious fresh local produce of which fruit farms are some of the most popular farms to visit. Experience the romance of picking your own fresh berries, cherries or stonefruits at Kinglake Raspberry Farm, Cherryhill Orchards or Rayners Stonefruit Orchard.

9. Yarra Valley Market

Yarra Valley sports a wide selection of farmers’ and community markets for the eager browser. With markets in Healesville and Yering Station, there’s something for all tastes, hobbies or random ideas.

10. Yarra Valley Brewery

If you’re not a wine lover then you must visit the growing number of microbreweries and cider producers throughout the Yarra Valley region. Head to White Rabbit Brewery or Coldstream Brewery to taste some beer and see how they brew their beer or take to the Cider & Ale Trail to sample cider and ale from the smaller microbreweries.
