If you’re planning a trip to Hayman Island I’m envious of you. If you’re considering it, I can tell you now that you’ll get your money’s worth and have one of the best holidays of your life. Read on to find out our reasons for why you should visit Hayman Island as well as important information to help you plan your trip to this gorgeous island.

Hayman Island is one of the most beautiful islands in the Whitsundays. It’s also one of the most expensive and, therefore, exclusive islands in the area. If you can afford a holiday here, it’s totally worth it.

5 Reasons to Visit Hayman Island

  1. What makes Hayman so attractive are the stunning views of the water of Hayman’s lagoon and Whitsunday Passage from the white sandy beaches or from one of the many bushwalks around the island. The hues range from gold to turquiose to emerald to sapphire. On Hayman, you will believe the blues can make you happy
  2. The One&Only Hayman Island Resort is one of the most luxurious and glamorous resorts in Australia. Expect to be pampered with all the bells and whistles
  3. There are several islands nearby most of which can be easily accessed from Hayman Island
  4. Everything you need and anything you might want to do or see can be easily organised by the Hayman Island Resort. All you need to do is ask
  5. Expect privacy and exclusivity at this island – it’s the best place to get away from the world and feel like you’re in tropical paradise

Where is Hayman Island Located?

Hayman Island is the most northern of the Whitsunday group of islands. It is situated about 28 km north-east of Shute Harbour and about 900 km north of Brisbane.

The island is just 4 sq km in area and rises to 250 m above sea level. It is a quiet mountainous continental island with forested hills, valleys and beaches.

The Hayman Island Resort is one of the most luxurious, glitzy and glamorous resorts in Australia. Check-in is done over a glass of bubbly aboard the resort’s sleek launch, which meets you at Hamilton Island Airport. On arrival, you won’t take long to find your way through the open-air sandstone lanais, cascading ponds, and tropical foliage to the fabulous hexagonal complex of swimming pools by the sea.

Despite the luxury, the one and only Hayman Island Resort is relaxed. Dress is beachwear by day, smart casual at night (pack something elegant for dinner, if you wish). An impressive lineup of activities is available, and it’s probably fair to say the staff at Hayman can organize almost anything you desire.

While Hayman is renowned for the antiques, artworks, and fine objets d’art gracing its public areas, the accommodations are welcoming. Every room, suite, villa, and penthouse has a balcony or terrace, bathrobes, and valet service (and butler service in the penthouses). Retreat rooms each have a private veranda, open patios, and outdoor rinse showers. For even greater privacy, the Beach Villa has a private Balinese-style courtyard, walled gardens, a private infinity plunge pool, and personalized concierge service.

Hayman’s exclusive spa complex, Spa Chakra Hayman, offers all the pampering you could possibly handle. It has 13 treatment rooms, a meditation suite, a hydrotherapy area, saunas, and steam rooms. Hernando’s Hideaway is a free kids club and crèche that keeps children and toddlers entertained. The resort has a dive shop and marine centre, and offers a range of diving and snorkelling trips to the Great Barrier Reef. Dinghies can be hired with fishing and snorkelling gear.

Hayman Island Activities

If you plan to holiday on Hayman Island, expect to spend your days relaxing under a palm tree and sipping cocktails, exploring the bushland around the island, swimming in the spacious pools or snorkelling/diving the coral reef that surrounds the island.

Snorkelling & Diving – Hayman Island is closer to the outer reef than the other islands, and there is good diving around its northern end and at nearby Hook Island.

Exploring nearby islands – There are several small, uninhabited islands close to Hayman, and you can walk out to Arkhurst Island at low tide. Langford Island, 2 km southwest, has some good coral around it, as do Black and Bird Islands nearby.

Water Sports – Resort guests have free use of catamarans, windsurfers and paddle skis.

Bushwalking – Hayman Island is mainly covered with eucalypt and hoop pines. There are many bushwalking tracks scattered around the island which lead to white sandy beaches and spectacular lookouts. Bushwalks include an 8km island circuit, a 4.5km walk to Dolphin Point at the northern tip of the island, and a 1.5km climb up to the Whitsunday Passage lookout.

Other activities also available on the island are squash and tennis courts, a driving range for golf, a putting green and a well-equipped gym.

How to get to Hayman Island?
