Attukal Waterfalls Munnar
Past the dense jungles of Munnar, at a distance of about 9 km from Munnar town, lies the cascading Attukal Waterfalls. Situated between Munnar and Pallivasal, the waterfalls is an idyllic and panoramic spot surrounded by verdant rolling hills.
The cascading plunge of the Attukal Waterfalls can be seen from a distance. As you approach the falls you can see the pearly white water streaming down, shooting over massive smooth boulders as it makes it journey downstream. Occasionally, the entire region around the waterfall becomes foggy as mist rises from the ice cold water as it gushes through the rocks with impeccable force.
Around the waterfalls, towering hills wrapped in a green hue and blooming with seasonal flowers fill the horizon as far as the eye can see. The area around Attukal Waterfalls makes it an excellent site for trekking as well. Serene and romantic, this is a great spot for long nature walks and adventurous hikes.
Attukal Waterfalls can be approached via a narrow wooden bridge. The walk up to the waterfalls is a treat in itself. If the water level is low you can walk up to the rocks and splash around in the water.
The best time to visit the waterfalls is soon after the monsoon months of June, July and August when the flow of the water is thick and full.
Pallivasal Waterfall which lies nearby is the first hydro electric project of Kerala.
Getting to & from Attukal Waterfalls
The best and most convenient way to visit Attukal Waterfalls is to take a private auto rickshaw or hire a private car for the day. Located between Munnar and Pallivasal, there are no public buses that travel along this route.
