Summary
For Indian standards, the pizzas at La Pizza de Mama are really tasty and quite filling too. The Tibetan momos and salad look pretty good too but why would you eat anything else here. Good value, tasty pizzas, friendly service and nice atmosphere – this is one restaurant in Mahabalipuram that comes highly recommended.
Restaurant in Mahabalipuram: La Pizza de Mama
Located on Othavadai Cross Street where all the top restaurants are situated, La Pizza de Mama is a restaurant in Mahabalipuram that is well known for its pizzas and pastas. They have a multicultural menu catering for all kinds of Western tastes including pizzas, pastas, salads, Tibetan momos and decadent desserts. However, it is their pizzas that make them so popular and locals and tourists flock to this venue to do ‘take away’ pizzas.
They have a lovely restaurant with an open roof experience that makes the ambiance relaxed and friendly. The area is nicely decorated giving it a sort of Tibetan theme. The restaurant is airy and the space between the tables makes it very comfortable to dine in.
The service here is friendly and attentive without being intrusive.
Given their specialty, we ordered two pizzas – Margarita & Regina for dinner. No surprises here.

Margarita Pizza consisted of tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, olives and oregano herbs. The pizza had a good tomato and herb flavour while the mozzarella cheese was nicely stringy. However, the base was a bit doughy and would have tasted better if it was cooked longer till crispy.

Regina Pizza consisted of tomato, mozzarella cheese, ham, mushrooms and olives. This pizza had more flavour due to the combination of the ham and olives. The base was slightly crisper than the margarita pizza which could have been due to slightly less mozzarella cheese. The mushrooms were unfortunately sparse. I really enjoyed this pizza and thought it was much tastier than the margarita pizza.
