Summary

Having dinner at one of the Palolem restaurants on the beach is a nice way to end a relaxing and enjoyable day at the beach. The atmosphere here is second to none. Fresh seafood that is brought in by the boats during the day is on display in front of each of the Palolem restaurants waiting for eager diners to select.

Palolem beaches are lined with beach shacks, offering all-day dining and fresh, fresh seafood as the catch comes in and the sun goes down. Many of these change seasonally, and your guess is as good as mine as to which of the Palolem restaurants are the best on any given day.

The atmosphere at the Palolem restaurants on the beach is spectacular especially since the tables and chairs are lined up on the sand. There is nothing better than to be sitting on the beach having a beer with your dinner and watching the waves come in with the lights from the lamps dancing around you.

As we walked down the beach, we came across Big Bamboo which had a nice selection of fish. Of all the Palolem restaurants on the beach, we liked the selection of seafood presented in front of this restaurant – they had a good variety and the seafood looked fresh. Moreover, the prices here were really good value.

After analysing all the seafood on display, we picked a tuna that was suitable for two people. We asked the restaurant to make grilled tuna fillets with a garlic sauce which was accompanied with a side of salad and chips.

When our meals were brought to the table, the first thing that caught our attention was the presentation which was beautifully done. In the middle of the dish was a nicely carved tomato with a candle inside to light up our dish so we could see what we were eating.

The fish fillets were a bit overcooked which made it almost dry. There were a few bits that were even bitter; we believe this was caused by not filleting the fish properly. The garlic sauce was strongly flavoured and overpowered the fish rather than providing a subtle flavour. The chips were plenty however they were not crunchy but a bit hard. The salad, however, was fresh and juicy and went wonderfully with the fish.

Overall, we thought that the focus at this restaurant was quantity over quality. They put a lot on the plate however what was plated wasn’t necessary delicious food.
