The Omelette Shop Jodhpur
The Omelette Shop Jodhpur is an extremely popular little eatery in Sardar Market, Jodhpur. Located near the north gate of Sardar Market, this small shop goes through 1000 to 1500 eggs a day. The owner has been cooking eggs here for over 30 years.
There are a couple of other fake omelette shops in the same area so look out for the genuine one. This eatery has Lonely Planet written on the shop front so you can tell it’s the genuine one. Also, it’s pretty packed with Western tourists eating here.
The owner is a really friendly man and will pose for photos with a big smile. He’s the one cooking the eggs in front of the shop on the street so you can’t miss him.
The eating area inside is small with a couple of chairs and a table to share. The decor leaves little to be desired but what everyone comes here for are the really tasty omelette sandwiches. The Omelette Shop cooks eggs in all different ways, including boiled eggs, but their specialty is the cheese masala omelette.

We had lunch here on two separate occasions. Both times, I ordered the double cheese masala omelette sandwich. It was like a ‘double decker sandwich’ with two cheese masala omelettes wrapped in three slices of white bread. The first time the owner cooked the omelette; the second time a worker cooked it.
On both occasions the onions were half raw and crunchy. Apparently this is how the locals like their onions cooked. Apart from this, the omelette I had the first time was really good. The bread was toasted and the spices and cheese made the omelette taste extra special. However, the second time, the bread was not toasted but soggy. The omelette was too salty and over spiced. Nevertheless, it was really filling and served as a good lunch option for us.
There is a bottle of tomato ketchup on the table but we weren’t game enough to try some as the bottle looked like it belonged to the 20th century. Let me know if you try it and live to tell the tale.
If you’re in Sardar Market, Jodhpur, drop by The Omelette Shop and try their cheese masala omelettes. For Rs 25, it is a great snack or meal option for any time of the day.
He’s still making outstanding omelettes 🙂 we met him a few days ago at his Omelette Shop in Jodhpur.
