Surrounded by the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal on three sides, Kanyakumari Beach is popular for its majestic views especially at sunrise and sunset. The views are the best on full moon days when you can experience a fabulous view of the sunset and moonrise simultaneously on the ocean’s horizon.

South west of the main beach is an observation tower which was built for viewing sunrises over the Bay of Bengal and sunsets over the Arabian Sea. However, the viewing tower can be accessed at any time of the day as it provides a perfect observatory for panoramic views of the confluence of the three water bodies.

Kanyakumari Beach is crowded at most times and the ghats lead down to a lingam half submerged in a wave-driven tidal pool. Here, you can watch in awe as locals and pilgrims plunge themselves into the turbulent swells, believing that the tri-oceanic waters are holy.

The beach itself is a bit rocky and care must be taken while walking on the rocks as they can be slippery. The waves are quite strong here so keep your distance from the break.

Another panoramic view to be seen across the waters from Kanyakumari Beach is the Thiruvalluvar Statue. Seen as the landmark of Kanyakumari, the statue pierces the horizon like a beacon.

Along the beachfront you can find ice-cream and chaat (snack) sellers who are hugely popular with the tourists. Above the beach is a memorial to the victims of the 2004 tsunami.

Getting to & from Kanyakumari Beach

Kanyakumari is a small town and most of the attractions are located in the vicinity of the beachfront. It is easy to walk around on foot to view the attractions on land. Walking around the seafront is a lovely experience as you get to see the pilgrims and tourist shops along the way.
