Summary
Shri Mishrilal Hotel Jodhpur specialises in makhania lassis which are very creamy. The hotel is located inside the southern gate of Sardar Market. It is very popular for its lassis; however the decor leaves little to be desired.
Best Lassi Shop in Jodhpur
While we travelled around North India, we were always on the lookout for a good glass of lassi. Made from dahi (yogurt), a lassi is a refreshing drink for the hot and humid climate of India. So, when we heard about Shri Mishrilal Hotel Jodhpur, we had to try their lassi.
Located inside the southern gate of Sardar Market in downtown Jodhpur, it’s not very easy to find unless you look out for their sign.
It’s such a popular shop in Jodhpur that there is a production line for making lassi. They are constantly making glasses of lassis for the patrons who walk in by the dozen. While we were there, a politician walked in with his entourage for glasses of the famous lassi. Photographers and interviewers were present as well to interview him. I wish I knew who this person was but unfortunately I don’t.
The decor here isn’t anything special – the tables and benches are spartan and clean. There are plenty of seats which seem to be set up for large crowds of people. It’s a bit hard to move around as the walkways are extremely narrow.

Shri Mishrilal Hotel Jodhpur specialises in makhania lassis – the very creamy variety. Also added into their lassi is saffron which gives it a yellow colour, as well as elaichi (cardamom) which is a very popular condiment that is added to drinks in India.
I really liked the flavour of the lassi which was very different to the lassis we had in Jaipur. The flavours of saffron and cardamom were subtle enough not to overpower the drink but added more flavour to the creamy yogurt.
On the downside, I found the lassi a little too thick to drink and would have preferred it a bit watered down. It was also slightly too creamy for my liking.
However, Graham really liked the thickness of the lassi so I guess it’s a personal choice here.

We also bought a packet of masala cashews to snack with our lassi. The cashews had a lovely spice to them, while the cashews themselves were nicely roasted and crunchy.
If you’re in or near Sardar Market, look out for the Shri Mishrilal Hotel Johdpur sign and drop in for a makhania lassi. It’s different and worth a taste.
