Chaturbhuj (meaning “One who has four arms”) is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is the only major temple in Khajuraho without any erotic sculptures. Built at a time when temple construction was in decline, Chaturbhuj Temple lacks the quality of carvings found in earlier temples in Khajuraho. Around the wall, there are three bands of sculptures with some fine Dikpalas, nymphs and mythical beasts in niches. Inside, it has an exceptional 2.7-m-high, four-armed Dakshina-murti Vishnu statue in the sanctum.

The unexceptional Chaturbhuj Temple stands on open land south of the Khudar River. The setting, attractive at sunset, lacks the overall ambience of the Western Group but the backdrop of the Vindhya Mountains is impressive.
The temple sees very little traffic but is a peaceful place at the best of times, not least at sunset. Nearby excavations continue to unearth new temple complexes, as Khajuraho keeps revealing more hidden gems.
Getting to Chaturbhuj Temple Khajuraho
Chaturbhuj Temple is located 3 km (2 miles) south of the city centre and 2 km (1 mile) south of Duladeo Temple on the other side of the Khudar River.
Duladeo and Chaturbhuj Temples are best reached from the Eastern Group of temples. After visiting the Jain enclosure, head west to the main street crossing before turning south. At the end of the road, before Khudar River, Duladeo Temple can be seen on the right. Cross the Khudar River and continue on the dirt path another 2 km (1 mile) to reach Chaturbhuj Temple on the left.
