Of all the Kalbarri restaurants, Restaurant Upstairs is one of the best in town. This fine-dining establishment features local seafood, Asian fusion and outback faves like kangaroo and crocodile.

The chef at Restaurant Upstairs Kalbarri has been trained at top restaurants in Bangkok, hence the dishes have an Asian flavour to them.

It is located in a shopping mall area and it can be missed as the restaurant is on the first floor. It is one of those places that people go to based on a recommendation rather than just walking down the street.

The location is actually superb. It is situated in a fantastic spot overlooking the ocean, and at sunset, the view from our outdoor table was spectacular.

Customer service here is actually quite good. The maitre’d was very professional and friendly. Not only did he know all the dishes very well, he even offered to take our photos, several times I might add.

Even the chef came out to speak to the people at the table in front of us. I’m guessing that he probably knew them because most of the clientele were locals rather than tourists. That says a lot about the quality of the restaurant.

Our entree for the evening was oysters kilpatrick with a hint of chilli and spring onions. I had the half lobster with scallops and prawns in a mild curry sauce served with a potato salad and greens. Graham had the scallops and prawns in a red curry sauce served with rice.  A nice glass of chilled white wine made the evening even more memorable.

Unfortunately, we didn’t have room for dessert even though the dessert menu did look unmissable. It would be worth visiting Kalbarri just to eat at Restaurant Upstairs again.

If you’re searching for Kalbarri restaurants, Restaurant Upstairs Kalbarri should be on your list.
