Summary

Empire Hotel Bangalore is a chain of non-vegetarian restaurants, hotels and serviced apartments, however, it is their chain of restaurants that they are so well-known for. Their specialties include executive non-veg thalis which are available throughout the day. With over 15 outlets located all over Bangalore, it is worth hunting one down.

From a humble beginning, the Empire Hotel Bangalore group has grown into one of the leading chains of non-vegetarian restaurants, hotels and serviced apartments spread over different parts of Bangalore, the Garden City of India. The successful history of Empire Hotel Bangalore began with the start of a small restaurant on Central Street, Shivaji Nagar in 1966 by a non-resident Indian, Mr Abdul Rahim from Malaysia, who had a long and excellent track record in the field of catering. Since then, the Empire Hotel Bangalore group has expanded to include more than 15 outlets across Bangalore due to the mouth watering and sumptuous food that it provides.

Nicknamed as the Taste of Bangalore, the restaurants of the Empire Hotel Bangalore group are some of the finest in town. Their specialties include the two executive non-veg thalis for lunch and dinner, both of which are available throughout the day.

The service at Empire Hotel Bangalore requires improvement as most of the waiting staff were disinterested in taking our order. The kitchen was quite efficient though as our meals came out in no time at all.

Since we were staying nearby we decided to have dinner at the first ever Shivaji Nagar outlet of Empire Hotel Bangalore. This branch is the oldest and the largest restaurant of the group, with a 500 plus seating capacity. It has two spacious A/C dining halls, non A/C dining areas and a terrace garden restaurant, which can be used as a party hall too.

While Graham tried the executive non-veg dinner thali, I opted for the executive non-veg lunch thali. Neither of the thalis are allowed to be shared.

The Executive non-veg lunch thali consisted of chicken kebab, chilly chicken, ghee rice, coin parota, butter chicken, mutton curry, dal fry, curd (yogurt), vegetable, pickle and a sweet.

The best dish in this thali was the coin parota, called so because of its resemblance to a coin – small, round and thick. Popular in Bangalore, it is a layered style of fried Indian bread which is absolutely delicious and a must try while in the city. I must admit that the kebabs in Graham’s dinner thali were better than the kebabs in the lunch thali. The chicken kebab and the chilly chicken were fairly average; they could have had more flavour. The butter chicken and the mutton curry, available in both the lunch and dinner thali, were really good and the ghee rice was a great accompaniment to these curries.

The Executive non-veg dinner thali consisted of kalmi kebab, chicken tikka, ghee rice, tandoori roti, butter chicken, mutton curry, dal fry, curd, vegetable, pickle and a sweet.

The kebabs in this thali were the stand out for the evening. Both the kalmi kebab and the chicken tikka were moist and bursting with flavour. They were so good that we wished we had some more of these kebabs on the plate.

Empire Hotel Bangalore is a great restaurant to dine at for several reasons. First and foremost, the quality and variety of the dishes in their thalis is superb. Moreover, at Rs 160 for a non-veg thali, the value of these meals is sensational. Finally, with Empire Hotel Bangalore outlets located all over the city, it should be easy to find an outlet nearby.
